Are you talking about Guam or something? That's not a colony.

But if his family's fortune was large enough... (but then again why his father didn't plunge in enterprises and suck up public funds? but went to work for the commission?)

You're confusing class and income. To be upper class in the United Kingdom does not necessarily imply one is loaded.

In the 19th Century, cash-strapped British aristocrats married wealthy Americans.

As for writing him off as a buffoon, I'm actually disappointed in you Molly.

Super. Because that's exactly what I didn't do. I said he was less intelligent than Magnus Pyke. Perhaps you should have looked him up.

However I still find your characterization of Boris as 'honest' to be very amusing.

That's because Sudan wasn't a British colony, you arse.

As for treating Liberia as the Euros treated their colonies- actually your governments were even more hypocritical. Just as they were with Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Nicaragua...

What the Hell is it then?! If France owned an island that wasn't fully represented in its legislature, you'd be calling it a colony too.

He doesn't seem to have heard of American Samoa either. No great surprise.

These are all Unincorporated Territories. Unincorporated Territories are not colonies because their name is different.

Guam is a convenient example but not the entirety of the list of US colonial possessions.

Is the Yukon a colony? Or Nunavut? What about the Australian Northern Territory?

                      • You realize that Yukon and Nunavut have full representation in the Canadian Parliament, right?

                            • Given the common definition of colony is a non-sovereign territory set apart geographically from the home territory, it's hard to see how Guam is not a colony, or how any Canadian, Australian or U.S. mainland or relatively proximate territories are colonies.

If you want to counter, provide a definition of colony.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

                              • A colony is an unincorporated territory, which must never be confused with an Unincorporated Territory.

See those capital letters? It's an absolutely crucial distinction.
