I've got a Droid 2. I'm long overdue for an upgrade.
I use my phone for music when I'm working out or out for a run. My phone's headphone port is screwy. It randomly decides to connect and disconnect... stopping my music in the process. Sometimes, it gets so bad that when I restart the music, the slight jostling from being put into my pocket (in a very delicate way) is enough to have the music turn off. I usually give it three tries before I ragequit.
I have tried many different kinds of headphones. They all work on other devices. They all suffer disconnection issues on my phone.
I've scoured forums for a solution to this. A few people said lint was the issue. I tried clearing out the port with a toothpick. No lint. Some said clean points of contact with alcohol. I did that. Still had problems. Someone else suggested stuffing a small piece of envelope (or any paper, I imagine) into the port to help prevent any movement. That's just silly.
The more I read, the more it seemed like this was a common problem. I'm just about at the point where my next phone will not be a Motorola.
So... my question is... what should I get?
I don't have a price range. Just... I want my goddamn music to work and the headphones to not disconnect all the time.
I don't keep up to date on phone specs or models (a smartphone can't give me more fps in my games). My brother-in-law is a phone geek... but he's more interested in rooting them and installing a whole bunch of new stuff... and he doesn't use his phone for music very often. He's got a Samsung Galaxy 5 (I think? is that the one that's water resistant and has the bigger screen?).
I'd prefer to keep my devices to a minimum. I suppose I could buy a separate MP3 player. That's an option. But there's got to be a smartphone out there that doesn't have a god awful headphone port. Any recommendations?
No Apple products please.
The most important criteria:
-headphones that don't disconnect
-a larger screen size wouldn't be terrible (but it's not necessary)
-works with Verizon (dunno if phones are carrier specific or not)
-good reliability (as good as planned obsolescence allows, I suppose)
I appreciate any help you guys can offer me.
