For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Idiot.
In addition to the strange idea that medicine is a private good alone. As if it impacts nothing else... whose writing this posts? Ayn Rand?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Healthcare is very much a public good. You might want to think about little things like infectious disease control for one thing. Looking more broadly it's then worth looking at things like working time lost due to unnecessary illness (and the economic effects of that), what exactly we do as a society with people who get sick and can't afford healthcare (we end up funding it one way or another anyway) and a whole host of other issues. Sick people don't just disappear when they get sick.Originally posted by regexcellent View PostDefense is a public good. Medicine is a private good. Being a public good is a necessary but not sufficient criterion for government support.
Which part are you struggling with? You ALREADY pay for uninsured people who get sick, but you do it in a horribly inefficient way that costs far more than if you just had a system that covers everyone. Or did you miss the part where America spends more per capita on healthcare than every other country on earth, and delivers worse outcomes than many of them?Originally posted by regexcellent View PostPoint out for me what in here recommends public healthcare.
It's not about increasing demand ffs, universal healthcare doesn't make more people get sick, it just means you're dealing with the sick in a more efficient way. If you want to argue that that doesn't save money, then there's a world full of evidence to prove you wrong.Originally posted by regexcellent View PostFor ****'s sake, in no universe does increasing demand on a macro scale reduce the price.
You really don't get this? a) A welfare/voucher system just means that you're paying for someone elses healthcare anyway. b) If you have a voucher system, what do you do with the people who need more healthcare than the value of their voucher? Do you those people get dumped on the street to die?Originally posted by regexcellent View PostOr you could just have it all be private and people who can't afford it get some sort of welfare/voucher system.
Here's the big 5 health insurance providers, which of them is non-profit?Originally posted by regexcellent View PostNice try but most health insurance companies and hospitals are nonprofit.
WellPoint, Inc.
CIGNA Health Insurance Company
Aetna
Humana

Just because it's a good doesn't mean it should be funded. Liberals tend to think things are free.Originally posted by Imran Siddiqui View Post

Uninsured was not the only problem in 2008. I remember the national discussion. Most Americans were concerned with the rising cost of healthcare, even more than the uninsured. I remember promises being made on both sides to lower costs. Well the liberals got the power to do healthcare reform, and look what we got, higher costs.Originally posted by kentonio View PostUnlike idiots who think that a system where the uninsured get healthcare paid for them anyway somehow doesn't give people free rides.

The 'liberals' as you call them did not get the power to reform healthcare in the way they wanted, because otherwise you'd have universal healthcare right now. Jesus dude, show some common sense. All the evidence shows that proper socialized healthcare delivers better results and lower costs for everyone, so why are you beating some republican drum all of a sudden?

Because Obamacare is a failure. That's what the government does. It fails. I don't care if you give Republicans their share of the blame, but it's ridiculous not to blame democrats for Obamacare. It's their damn law.Originally posted by kentonio View PostThe 'liberals' as you call them did not get the power to reform healthcare in the way they wanted, because otherwise you'd have universal healthcare right now.
