Hey, it's your thread; you're the one who made it about domestic violence among pro athletes. By all means, please specify whatever conditions you want for your insistent and continuing self-pwnage.

Keep in mind that most major pro sports leagues in the US are unionized. The employees are well represented and - especially in the NFL and MLB - the unions go to great lengths to protect their members from unfair labor practices. Yet I don't see them jumping up to defend Rice or AP.

No. I'm assuming they made a moral judgment when firing. I'm asking if that's right.

        Assuming things? Generally it isn't.

Assuming, because we don't know if it was a business decision or a moral decision.

If it was a business decision I agree they were right.

If it was a moral decision I think it was wrong. Let him be tried and pay the consequences through the legal system and then he should be treated as an equal.

          • It was clearly a business decision based on the public's reaction to the TMZ elevator footage. That was the only thing that changed.

If it was a moral decision, Rice would have been fired back in April, when the hallway tape of him dragging Palmer's unconscious body out of the elevator surfaced. Remember, he admitted hitting her at that time, per Goodell.

            • The truth is, as you have stated, the NFL had no moral obligation to discipline Rice. I'm saying that because you said that they are not responsible for what happened to Janay.

I guess that is up to what kind of moral ground the NFL wants people to see it in If it thinks it'd be good for their image to portray themselves as moral champions, then they'd be. But it's up to them to decide.

In any case, from what I see, it is more of a publicity issue... Firing/suspending him is good publicity, not doing it isn't, and the industry is heavily dependant on that.
