  • The NFL doesn't care about feminists per se. They care about being perceived as entitled neanderthals who do as they please without consequences.

Today's media landscape has forced the league to accept greater transparency -- something they clearly would not have done on their own.

    • Why should they make themselves transparent?

      • The NFL has always been very careful not to make waves. But now they have to do it with public policy and discipline instead of retired FBI agents and news blackouts.

        Read what I wrote, Kid:
Today's media landscape has forced the league to accept greater transparency
By "media landscape," I basically mean the fact that there are cameras everywhere. 20 years ago, the Ray Rice incident would never have seen the light of day, and he would not have missed a single game. Today, that is impossible. Not only does the NFL have to acknowledge the situation, but their decisions on discipline will (rightfully) be subject to public scrutiny, and a player being an All Pro will (rightfully) mean fvck-all.

But the bigger issue is the feminist transformation of the entire society.
Frankly, this situation has nothing to do with feminism. The fact that you think it does, despite there being zero evidence supporting your suggestion in the thread title, merely demonstrates your myopic worldview.

        • You're being obtuse. I have a question. Is the NFL responsible for what happened to Janay?

            • It wouldn't have mattered if there we cameras everywhere 20 years ago, because the NFL would not be held responsible for their athletes hitting their wives etc... (maybe 30 years ago). My point is, YES this has to do with feminism. Now we are all responsible for stopping domestic violence. That is the issue here. The NFL is paying the price for this. If they aren't at fault, why are they expected to pay?

Yeah, and 1500 years ago it wouldn't have mattered if the losing team was killed. A lot of people will think it's an improvement (and rightly so)

Because, as has been mentioned before, they are part of the entertainment industry and rely on the public for their income; so they gear their actions accordingly.

So you're actually saying that Emmitt Smith or Walter Payton could have been caught on video beating up his wife, and that video made public, and there would have been no consequences for the NFL? And that you further believe that's the way it should be?

Absolutely. Those are two of the greatest players of all time. Losing them would have been a great loss to the NFL and it's fans. And why? The NFL would not have been responsible for domestic violence. Would you want something like that to happen to you or your business?
