  • You are against efforts to grant woman's suffrage and western education in Iran. Hilarious!

A non-Christian CAN be elected to office in the US. They have that right, as well as the right to vote, you ******.

If the means for trying to get to those is overthrowing their democratically elected governments and imposing a monarchy against the will of the people then yes I am against it. Especially when that monarchy then uses torture and murder to help maintain it's grip on power.

It's a shame that someone who used to care about the vulnerable has now apparently become a ****ing neocon. I guess having a social conscience wasn't cool with your MRA buddies.

We were talking about 1955 dumbass.

      • The so-called "democratic" government did not allow women and non-Muslims to vote or hold office. The education system and every single institution was controlled by the clergy/aristocracy. You do not support overthrowing such a system.

        • So you'd have been ok with a foreign power overthrowing the US government in 1919 (a time when women couldn't vote and non-Christians didn't get elected to office)? Presumably you'd also have been ok with that new puppet regime staying in power for 20 years by kidnapping, torturing and murdering American citizens who spoke out in any way against the regime?

          • Stop BKing every discussion. The Shah was not a puppet, and I do not support overthrowing foreign governments in neocon style.

The point is the 1979 revolution was a reaction to the progressive policies of the Shah. I do not support revolutions against progressive governments.

2 minutes ago you were justifying the 1955 coup on the grounds of who could vote. As for the Shah not being a puppet, what the **** would you call a regime that we install after toppling the democratically elected one? One which we then continue to support and maintain in power against the wishes of its people. What exactly do you think a puppet government is ffs?

It was a reaction to a regime that oppressed its citizens using torture and murder for crying out loud. You have a very strange definition of 'progressive'.

              • I did not justify a coup. I'm trying to get it through to you that the Revolution was not for progress (human rights etc). It was for a return to backwardness and anti-westernism. Remember that you think that is so funny?

When you overthrow a democracy and keep its people in oppression for decades under a regime of torture and murder, then you don't get to be all surprised and indignant when revolutionary extremists manage to gain support for overthrowing the regime. If you want a progressive society with Western values then try treating democracies with the same respect that you'd want to be treated to.
