  • Texas, where miscarriages of justice are just called miscarriages

Parents in Texas are upset after police reportedly “swarmed” a Texas high school because a girl may have had a miscarriage in one of the bathrooms.KDFW reported that a school custodian notified the principal at Woodrow Wilson High School after finding a “possible fetus” in one of the bathroom stalls on Friday.
The principal contacted police, who “swarmed” the school, according to KTVT

Parent Christine Kerry was outraged that she had not been notified as to why so many police had been deployed to the school.“I seen a helicopter and I was really worried,” one student recalled.

“I got out of my car and specifically asked, ‘What’s going on, and is it safe for these kids to be out here?’” she said. “And I was told to go away.”

The district promised that the parents would get an email explaining what had happened.
“What was found was what appears to be a fetus, or what has been confirmed to be a fetus,” Dallas Independent School District spokesperson Jon Dahlander told reporters. “We have been in the process of trying to notify parents to let them know about this.”
Dallas Police Department’s Child Abuse Unit detectives were investigating to find out who may have abandoned the fetus. The person involved was being considered a “suspect.”

“We’re reviewing video, talking to the teachers, trying to determine if anybody has any knowledge of any student that may have had something going on in their life, and pray,” Dallas Police Major John Lawton said.

Alan Elliott of Baby Moses Dallas explained to KDFW that the mother could have avoided any criminal charges if she had taken advantage of Baby Moses laws by carrying the child to term, and then dropping it off at a safe baby site like a fire station.

“And that’s a happy ending when that happens, because the baby is safe, the mother is protected from any sort of prosecution, so it’s a win-win for both of them,” Elliot noted.
However, it was not immediately clear how far along the pregnancy was, and the cause of the possible miscarriage was not known.
Ah yes, the future Utopian world where babies who are miscarried should have just been carried to term so their mothers can avoid prosecution.

Do you dumb ****s down in Texas even know how pregnancy works before you vote on this kind of ****?

I predicted it. Now, anytime a miscarriage happens in one of these dumb**** states, you're going to have Law and Order OBGYN.

They want government small... so it can fit inside your daughter's vagina.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Several of these bright red wing nut dominated states have tried to pass life begins at conception laws which also include women having to report miscarriages with in 24 hours so they can be investigated for possible murder charges. The wing nuts are just irrational idiots as well as terrible people.

Where'd you get this from? The story doesn't really make sense, and not just in a "TEXANS ARE STUPID" way. I don't think Texans are actually dumb enough to think women can miscarry by concentrating real hard, or whatever; presumptively "miscarriage" is being used in a generic sense to mean "termination of pregnancy by some means, natural or otherwise." The implication of the bolded statement, to me, is that they think this girl induced an abortion (at a late enough stage in the pregnancy that a janitor could recognize it as something other than a smear of blood), presumptively using RU-486 or some such, had it come out in the bathroom, and just walked off without telling anyone. IIRC, that pill hasn't been confirmed safe (obligatory pro-lifer note: for the mother, no need to snark) after something like six weeks. Would a fetus be recognizable by then?

Anyway, enjoy your argument with BK.

Your obsession with this topic is creepy (and cowardly).

I'd have more respect for you if you were like BK.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

They think the girl induced an abortion with RU-486 because they can't believe God would cast a baby out of a mother's womb?

Elok, tell me, if the laws in Texas are so draconian that it is difficult to not only procure an abortion but also pills for an abortion, what leads you to think that this is an abortion other than some stupid **** who works for a project called "Baby Moses Texas". That name alone should clue you in on the level of intellectual power at work in Texas.

So glad this mortal coil is only 76 years on average, I don't know if I could survive you ****heads much longer.

Nothing in the article to indicate whether the abortion was spontaneous or induced, not even how far along the fetus was. Maybe they should wait until the medical examination until making statements?

No, that's my best guess, because the story you posted is one-sided outrage-bait that doesn't make sense. I have a hard time believing that, even in Texas, people think miscarriages are voluntary, or that they've actually criminalized miscarriages as such. The story makes some sense if you read miscarriage to mean only "fetus stopped being in womb for some reason." If girls are inducing miscarriages at school, the public-health perspective alone should indicate some government involvement to get to the bottom of it--though not to the level of police raids, if that's what happened. Otherwise it's equivalent to "Texans stomp kitten for excessive cuteness."

Elok, tell me, if the laws in Texas are so draconian that it is difficult to not only procure an abortion but also pills for an abortion, what leads you to think that this is an abortion other than some stupid **** who works for a project called "Baby Moses Texas". ? Relevant Biblical allusions, by themselves, are a sign of stupidity? You bolded the quote, man, and it would make some sense of an otherwise absurd story. Nothing else here does. Also, I only knew about the RU-486 term thing because of a recent NYT (I think) article about an organization that takes advantages of legal loopholes to quasi-smuggle those pills into other countries. That particular group doesn't operate in the U.S., but in general those pills pose a substantial logistical challenge to any future efforts to stamp out abortion. I could certainly see a high-schooler procuring them illegally.

                        Oh, and what Strangelove said.
