I'm quite positive that your whole reasoning is wrong.
In Europe the countries with the largest number of single parent families are also the richest.
So only if we could all be like them.
It's also starting to feel a bit childlish. Health care is evergoing so are benefits for unemployment etc etc (again, richest countries with large number of single parent families excel on those too).
The US has the highest rate of single parent households. You need to be more like us.

elok: as i said, the factors that have caused this are very unlikely to (or simply won't) change. are people going to give up sexual freedom? are women going give up their economic independence? will divorce become more difficult? will out of wedlock births become shameful again? will the atomisation of society be reversed (and hey i'm a collectivist anarchist and i can't really see this happening!)? if you honestly believe that any of these will, please explain why, because i just don't see it.
it's not question of whether single parent households are, or can be made, as good as two parent ones (in a general sense), but rather that single parent households are here and here to stay, and therefore social and economic policies need to recognise and deal with this social reality. i agree with you about the problem really being poverty, but disagree with you about the cause. poverty is caused by people not having enough money, and any solution will mean redirecting some of society's resources.

Well, it was actually a discussion about Star Wars that turned into single parents. Which makes sense, because Padme wasn't around. Poor Vader, left to raise twins on his own, protective custody trying to steal his children away from him. Can hardly blame him for destroying planets...
Some years back Denmark overshot the 50% in out of wedlock kids.
Which means 50% of all children born in the viking country were out of marriage.
Which means social stigma:0.
That could also mean that there was an increase of single parent families.
Denmark is widely recognized for its coherent social state same as other scandinavian countries with very large single parent families, children out of wedlock etc etc.
Now, a society that simply doesn't care about these issues, or cares in a very wrong way will simply not prosper.
And besides, fewer money for the top but more financial equality for all is a noble cause. The opposite is of no interest.
Oh. The UK also has a large number of single parent families. I wouldn't exactly call it poor. (although financial divergance is big and is something to be looked into)

I thought the twins were seperated, the girl went to Padme's parents, the boy went to Luke's brother?
