New GMO Studies Demonstrate ‘Substantial Non-Equivalence’

Several new studies carried out by scientists independent of the biotech industry are showing up glaring differences between GMOs and their non-GMO counterparts. This makes a mockery of the regulatory principle of ‘Substantial Equivalence’ which has facilitated approvals of GMOs with practically no protection for public health and the environment [1] (see [2] The Principle of Substantial equivalence is Unscientific and Arbitrary, ISIS news).

A little of both. Yes, the town is sinking as it was built on a swamp with loosely consolidated sediments, and impacts of human activities has reduced the natural defenses (dams prevent sediments from reaching the ocean, boats cause wakes which erode swamp grass, etc...) but sea levels have also risen modestly so, yes, that is also part of the cause.

All true but the biggest reason is the dredging and straightening of the rivers and channels comprising the lower Mississippi shipping lanes. This allows water to move faster and combined with less bends means less sediment is deposited and less water pushes through the wetlands (allowing saltwater to penetrate into them from the other side, killing vegetation). The shipping lanes also let saltwater directly into inland areas. This in turn means the wetlands sink, which in turn means less of a storm barrier. The same thing happened to the Everglades which is why they are destroying some of the canals there.

Before that the delta was growing despite a robust human settlement.

There is no evidence that hurricanes are caused by global warming, or any extreme weather at all for that matter, and in fact I guarantee you that Katrina and the 2005 hurricane season were unrelated to it.

Several papers published in 2005 and 2006 claimed that higher sea surface temperatures caused by global warming would result in stronger hurricanes. The 2007 hurricane season, amusingly, was also blamed on global warming--not because it was strong, but because it was unusually weak. The culprit there was higher wind shear due to increased atmospheric temperatures.

Neither year was all that warm anyway; in fact iirc temperatures dropped very slightly between 2000 and 2010 and sea level didn't rise significantly because in that period the antarctic ice sheet grew at unprecedented speed (this was, hilariously, also blamed on global warming by many scientists).
