Israel can win wars but they will never win the conflict until they win the hearts and minds of the Palestinians.


As a response to HC's comment, I contend that Israel is incredibly bad at counterinsurgency because they have fought for decades and are no closer to a resolution than they were in the 1970's. Their track record is abysmal. If they were actually good at counterinsurgency, the West Bank would be closer to Northern Ireland today.

Israel should have taken lessons from the Marines in the Philippines. Torture everybody you can get a hold of, herd the population into camps, and if hundreds of thousands die, who gives a ****?

Do tell me more about your experiences in the US military.

Because the US military doesn't work closely with the Afghan National Army:

But what do I know? I don't have the experience in the US military that you have.


And where are pictures of the IDF working with Palestinian authorities, helping and making friends in Palestinian communities, or even just playing with Palestinian children?

Seriously, I challenge you to google 'USMC Iraqi Children' and see the hundreds of positive images and contrast it with 'IDF Palestinian Children' and see the sheer number of photographed atrocities. There's a problem.

It is possible (though not likely) that the IDF are very culturally astute and have a robust civil affairs program comparable to the US Marine Corps' but why are they failing to publicize it? That is a major failing of the IDF, even if we were to assume they are actually just as concerned for the well-being of Palestinians as the US military is for Iraqis and Afghans, they are miserable in getting that out there to the world.

I want to hear from our Israelis who served in the IDF. I have asked this question many times but never gotten a response: do the IDF do these things for the Palestinian people?

Israel's existential threats can only be resolved through making the Palestinians not hate them and that can only happen by working with and helping Palestinians.
