Stuck in traffic isn't fun with a manual, but on open road it's SOOO much more satisfying.

How much "suburban sprawl" does the UK have?

Let's take London and compare it to Chicago. I'm about 40 miles to the west/southwest of the city. If I drove on surface streets, it would be traffic light after traffic light... and would probably take me all day just to drive into the city. If I take the expressway, I can make it to the lakefront in about 35-45 minutes depending on traffic.

If I'm 40 miles outside of London, am I in a suburb? Is it still considered the party of the London metropolitan area?

I've looked at maps, but it's hard to get a feel for what conditions on the ground are. And short of following Google street view all the way out of town, I have no actual experience with the area.
To us, it is the BEAST.

40 miles would take you well outside London. Lots of open roads out there.

Using a manual transmission is just a substitute for your manhood. I mean, you're out there in the open, for all to see, playing with your stick.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I learned to drive on a manual. However, I haven't drove one in maybe 15 years.

Those of you who enjoy a manual for the driver involvement: try a motorcycle!

I've never owned one, but they seem okay.

Apologies if you own this model, but I find the Miatas to be absolutely stupid.

                        MAZDAS ARE UNAMERICAN.

...at least, until somebody writes a country song about them.

The whole zoomzoom song could be adapted. Just throw in some references to your wife leaving you and your dog dying.
