Urg, I shouldn't have brought this up. I'm trying to keep my personal drama to that one thread now.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

You're free to tell your representatives that. (Usually this stuff would be at the local level.)Originally posted by Sava View Postmaybe they should get real jobs then
Public spaces should be 100% completely advertisement-free.
I of course would rather pay lower taxes and maybe have a poster visible from time to time. Seeing a poster generally costs me nothing, especially if it's somewhere as picturesque as a bus stop. (Which let's face it, could use more hot chicks, even if they're just on posters.) Paying more taxes costs me something. It's an easy choice.

They actually will tax anyone with money. "Rich" is just a word, like "brandalism."Originally posted by pchang View PostI want something, WAAHHH!
I know, we should tax rich people to pay for what I want.
Who are rich people?

As one politician said, "The people have spoken, the bastards." This was after he lost an election.
In this case, it is why we things are the way they are (ads on buses, bus stops, subway stations, etc.).“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

I disagree with the notion that constantly being bombarded by advertisements somehow equates to a tax savings for me.Originally posted by Aeson View PostYou're free to tell your representatives that. (Usually this stuff would be at the local level.)

Good job on what giving you did Aeson. Surgery in Mabini?Originally posted by Aeson View PostI stayed at my parents' house over the winter 2 years ago after I sold my business (to pay for a surgery) and had to build a new one. That one didn't take, and when I said **** it and came back over here I had close to nothing. Built another business while I was over here and ... third times the charm.
(Well, maybe a few more times than 3)
Do what you need to do to be successful. Family can help a lot. Ego rarely does, unless you have some real good reason for having the ego (and then you're usually better off without the ego still).
So far I've paid for 2 ovarian cancer treatments for family, both were unfortunately failures. Some portion of a brother in laws surgery after getting shot while another brother in law's tricycle was stolen, then buying a new tricycle. Perhaps $1400 in 2 Poly Houses, various small surgeries and hospital stays not counting my own, I can't remember everything. Ning Ning, a nice blanket for grandma there in Mabini and rice for the family as well as on again off again needs. Helped on wiring that house, a contribution towards Pa Mente's costs iirc. Very glad you're now picking up the tab there.
Kids educations... Now our 2 kids, Augustine alone is well over P100,000, but healthy finally thank God. There's enough family otherwise to consider. Thank God Zkrib is picking up JJ's heart surgery.
Got Bing to the US so she and LA can look after family in Manila. Endless really, no end to the need here.Last edited by Lancer; May 21, 2014, 12:12.Long time member @ Apolyton

this i'm afraid says nothing that hasn't already been discussed and dealt with in this thread.Originally posted by Aeson View PostThis is why we have democracy. So that society as a whole can decide what they want in public spaces.

so in other words, you don't know. hopefully now you see how silly your question 'how would you replace x amount of money' was, without having any idea what x is.I suspect it's rather high in some areas, low in others.
so your point was a statement of the obvious, followed by an unsupported assertion. in that case, it's an extremely uninteresting point, which i'm happy to dismiss. You of course missed the entire point, which is X + ad revenue > X. You just want to increase X ... but fail to realize if we could do that we already would have."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

I'll tell you what. You get a majority of the population to vote "yes" on advertisements via some referendum or something, and I'll accept the results as "the will of the people".Originally posted by Aeson View PostThis is why we have democracy.
