I didn't say they didn't exist. I just said I had never heard any. They seem relatively minor complaints. But if there are ways to change the process to make it better, I support that.

Bee tea dubs, peer-review is not a total failure (another something I don't recall saying). The great thing about science is that scientists get **** wrong all the time, but every single time that's ever happened, scientists were the ones correcting the mistakes. That kind of self-correcting mechanism is exceedingly rare (or non-existent) in other branches of inquiry. The peer-review process, flawed though it may be, is part of that mechanism.

Long-term depression does cause memory issues, but so does long-term pot use.

I had free ultrasound scans (managed to see three further gallstones playing pinball in my gall bladder) free x-rays and free M.R.I. scans. And the usual intravenous drips, painkillers, plasters and so on.

There was even a second hand book stall run by ex-nurses (for charitable purposes) where I managed to pick up books on Magritte and Braque, a comparative survey of British, American and Soviet Russian science fiction and an etymological dictionary.

That and a hunky cleaner from Cote D'Ivoire and a very handsome male nurse from Nigeria meant my stay went very smoothly.

Even when I inadvertently blurted out 'Jayne Mansfield' as I saw the surgeon who was about to take out my gallstone- he was wearing a leopard print surgical gown/apron.... luckily he was a wee bit older than me and did understand the reference.

              Indeed.

I can only deal with one crappy memory.

I need me some computer glasses - the reading part in my bifocals is impossible to use that way. Expensive to get another set just for that, though. Is that something National Health would tend to cover if I was over there being British?

Probably, as long as you didn't want designer frames.

Yes. Free regular eye checks can usually be had if you need spectacles for your work (or can be subsidized through union membership or workplace schemes).

If you want Elton John extravaganzas, then save your nickels and dimes now.

My eyesight is only now beginning its inevitable decline- I used to have only a very mild astigmatism in my left eye, but now I'm finding that very small print is almost unreadable in poor light.

Not bad though for 51, considering all the use my lamps have had.

                        Yes.

Because the outbreak of WW2 was a minor footnote. Bringing it up is splitting hairs.

for National Health, then. I didn't start losing my sight very young, but I'm not young anymore.

Last time I was at the eye doctor, they let me choose... I could get new contacts or new glasses... but not both... and somehow, I still needed to pay a ton for the lenses.

And I have good health insurance.

These people that defend America's health care system... it's like... they've never used it before.

Because not paying what something's worth is a bad thing?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

There's so much wrong with your statement... it's not even worth pointing out if you can't already tell what's wrong.
