A friend of mine was murdered less than two weeks ago in a mass murder by a 22-year old kid who, from all reports, was kind, generous, and friendly and was the son of a well-respected 33-year senior city cop. It looks like he had a psychotic break. He had just finished his undergrad and was to start law school in September. Invited guest to a low-key house party celebrating the end of classes - he mingled for a bit before casually heading to the kitchen, returning with a large kitchen knife, where he casually, and very quickly, stabbed five students to death.

Sometimes things just don't make sense. Ascribing it to a specific thing is folly.
