Poly is dead as a civ site, so most of us who care and have Firaxis contacts are (more) active on WPC.

I had a good look at the Frog Pond today, and man oh man, is it near to drying up completely and going dust bowl. Just finished 31 hours, 4 minutes between posts in OT, Civ4 MP down to three games not finished, and only one with activity this week, and less than a handful of posts in the last 24 hours in Other Games.

OT and on-topic both nearly dead, in other words. One whole member browsing as I type - I have four on at a specialty forum right now.

No sign of any BE bump, despite a great job with the coverage and setting up the forum fast. If BE isn't great, the logs and storks may finally starve to death in the next year for utter lack of frogs. I would be saying before the year is out, and more confidently, if not for BE.

I'm astonished that this makes me feel a little sad. It had such a great start, and they threw it all away.

Hoho. If I start telling everything I know w/ names and details, it'll stir up trouble and make me look like a jerk.

Short answer is that Dale made a lot of mistakes, but they're dead without him. I've told Dale so to his face, and he agrees. A forum needs someone who actually spends time there and takes care of business in a timely fashion. Dale did that, and provided visible leadership, which did more good than harm. A forum needs a face on the management, too, something poly also had and has a problem with, but not as bad as the Pond by an order of magnitude, where old King Log hasn't been by in over a year and other Old King Log goes over a month between visits sometimes. The entire staff is useless, except Nikolai, who they should promote a couple of grades and get out of his way.

At CFC, absent Thunderfall has ainwood running things energetically and visably, and douchey over-aggressive moderation is better for the health of a site, apparently, than virtually none. Those goons always stay on top of news and do frequent contests and promotional stuff of the sort. I wouldn't pee on them if they were on fire, but they get incontrovertible results.

The only thing that gets the staff at WPC energized is drama, and they form a high-frequency circlejerk that makes it worse every time there's drama. Solver has more sense, but can't be arsed to lead his people and step on the circles. Or to do much of anything.

It's only a matter of time. Do not troll while they die of boredom.

Remember in early 2012, 'poly had an extended outage and a few tubbies, you included, posted a little at the Pond? I made a crack about your avatar reminding me of Edward James Olmos in a gimp mask? You said you were offended, Nugog started in on me in the Staff Room as if I wasn't the most accomplished troll wrangler on the forum, and it was the beginning of the end of some staff drama circlejerking that'd been going on for months, resulting in me withdrawing my support and killing the second most active subforum by leaving before it was ready to do without me.

I build activity, something no one else there was working on, or has since. QED, the eminent death of Traitorland is your fault, self.

Thanks BU. But they aren't all bad, Donald is a virtual genious in technical stuff for example, something I am not. And Solver fixed a new forum ASAP and is always available to fix stuff if I need him to. Problem is rather lack of posters and something to talk about. I am merely a news reporter. Not a mod, not an admin and frankly I'm not sure I'm needed to be either. I can do a lot on news reporting alone. What I need is activity. So far little has come out of my troubles with the new forum. Same activity as here, and OnT here is not active as you might have noticed... The site as a whole is about as active as this one, minus the constant insults.

Useless, the lot. Donald and Solver would only be worth anything if they got off their dead butts.

You'd make a flawed mod -not flexible enough about respecting people's boundaries- but you'd try talking to people before you did anything to them, which is key to good moderation. And I think you'd take the job seriously and try to build the place. Nobody else is trying at all anymore, and my contempt for that knows no bounds.

The place is dying of neglect, and mark my words, I could log in and post a detailed list of what needs doing in civil tones - and none of it would ever be done. Moby Dick, as the literary types like to joke, doesn't work as anything if he doesn't work as a whale. The last time there was much activity in the Staff Room was Darsnan posting screenshots of drama 2-5 years old, and most of that long-discredited slander. That's all those clowns care about.

Solver could fix it, but he won't.

And that's why you'll have to find somewhere else to hang out, all too soon.
