In the shots with Cristo Redentor, the city below is pretty obviously engulfed in smog. And even in the other scenes, the skies are never clear. I think the obvious conclusion is that pollution played a role. Honestly, it really doesn't matter. I was just making a joke. And I'm fine with whatever semi-plausible excuse Firaxis gives for why we need to colonize other planets, and I'm fine with it being left ominously unanswered as well.

I think the obvious conclusion is Brazil is a third-world ****hole.

I would say that's a matter for debate.

But her whole shtick has to do with a plastic idea of perfection - if you google around, you can find lots of flying saucer people in spandex trying for similar looks; the looks they imagine the super-advanced and perfected space people who are coming to save us all would sport.

Makes sense, since the dominant space faring species are most plastic and are super grossed out by how soft and squishy we are. Actually, all "fake" vomit was created during their first visit to earth.

What? There was obvious synergy between certain civics and certain victory conditions. You wouldn't pick "Honor" unless you were planning on world conquest. "Tradition" was well suited for cultural victory. I guess "Liberty" was good for going into space.
