  • So drinking and fornicating is not sinful according to Jesus.

Yes it is. To enter the kingdom of heaven you have to surrender all things that cause suffering
I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

      • People also used to drink wine and beer a lot because water had a horrible habit of being full of bacteria which could kill you.

          • At a party drinking and fornicating is all the same game

Hmmmm Yet you're the one advocating drunk sex.

              • I guess the real question here is whether Jesus would consider sex between a husband and wife without consent rape.

                • I doubt wives refused. They accepted it as their duty.

                  • That doesn't answer my question. It avoids it.

I have no idea. If I wanted sex I had to say I was wrong.

Well, yes, that's part of my point. The fact that something is actually quite rare tends, in a perverse way, to make it more easy to believe in. Because there's no real thing there to compare to, they're free to invent a chimera. Compare fraud, voter.

Which then leads people to find ways to believe it isn't true, and to start questioning the woman's role and previous behaviour. It's easier for a lot of people to believe that a young woman was just a slut who regretted sex, than to accept that a well educated family man or promising student is a rapist.
Agreed; it's very unsettling to think that the smiling dude next door might be a sexual predator, less unsettling (except perhaps for men who like to chase skirts) to think that the world is full of nuts who will accuse one-night stands of assault at the drop of a hat. I simply don't think this is the result of any culture-specific factors beyond dislike of rape and possibly the stigmatization of female promiscuity--though I can't help thinking that, in a hypothetical gender-egalitarian culture, the raped woman would be accused of some fault unrelated to her gender or sexuality, like delusions or a blackmail scheme gone bad.

Possibly, though at this point I'm not totally sure there is a single, unified American culture to point the finger at. The internet lets everybody live in his own chosen subcultural bubble to an extent that would have been inconceivable just a generation ago. Kid's MRA subculture, for example, is pretty well self-contained and self-sustaining, and invisible to the rest of us, but if he chooses he can live entirely in a world of STUPID FEMINAZIS TOOK THIS MAN'S KIDS AWAY with no problems until he mentions it to someone like us who isn't a believer.

I don't think it's a bad idea to keep an eye on people who are plastered and might doing something stupid...?
Well, if it's considered normal for a young woman to go to a party and get drunk with men she hardly knows, and for her to have sex with said men, you've basically created near-ideal conditions for sexual assault right there. She can get too drunk to consent or catch danger cues, he can get too drunk to hear 'no' or control himself when he hears it, and neither knows the other well enough to read subtle cues well or have a strong concern for the other's well-being. If it's a cultural phenomenon that makes rape more probable, is it rape culture? Or does that only apply to things that make it easier to get away with after the fact?

(note that I'm not 'blaming' women for getting drunk; if I point out that hitchhiking is dangerous, that doesn't mean I think murdered, assaulted, or kidnapped hitchhikers had it coming somehow)

Nobody is saying that anyone deserves to be raped. In many ways you Sa the same things anti-feminists say but you call them people responsible for rape. You lie, just like kentonio, giblets and so many liberals that you condem, when you say that people are saying women deserve to be raped.

Yes, you make a good point. They far outweigh the 250000 annual reported rapes or attempted rapes.
