No, given life spans in Afghanistan they are most certainly NOT the same people. Life expectancy in general in 1980 was 35 years, 40 in 1990. The Taliban didn't exist until 1994. Something tells my the life expectancy of a mujahideen fighter was quite south of the national rate.

That ignore the fact that the mujahideen fought a civil was with the Taliban for control of the country in 1996.

Were the Mujahideen a single, unified organization taking orders from Osama bin Laden? I had no idea the US created and sponsored an organization in Afghanistan in 1979 and installed Osama as their leader.

Osama came to Afghanistan as early as 1979 according to his own confessions. He might not be the leader of Jihad but he advanced in ranks rapidly. And I have no idea how centralized Jihadist's command was, but still that doesn't change the fact that CIA has carried out the operation Cyclon and Osama took part in it (according to some sources he recruited jihaddist from abroad to fight in Afghanistan). And if you still do not know that "US created and sponsored an organization in Afghanistan in 1979" re-read the Bzejinsky interview or do a google search for the Operation Cyclone. Bzejinsky said everything loud and clear - US did that (signed a strategic alliance with radical Islam) six months before the Soviet enterance in Afghanistan, to create a trap for the Soviets, to give USSR its own Vietnam in Afghanistan. And he considers US alliance with radical islamists was an "excellent idea".

Big deal. That doesn't change a thing, really. Now Bin Laden is gone, is jihad over? You have created a monster and who exactly leads this monster in a given period of time is not that important.

Oh LOL You are doing better? How so?
We have controlled the country for ten years fighting ALONE a proxy over with another SUPER POWER who sponsored, trained and armed jihadists there. The amount of heroin which came from Afghanistan to Russia was equal to ZERO. And the situation in Afghanistan was stable and completely under control - we build houses, roads, hospitals, schools, powerplants, etc.
Now you have an entire NATO COALITION to fight a bunch of local rag heads sponsored by NO ONE. And what did you achieve for ten years of occupation? Chaos and death is everything what you have achieved. The production of heroin has skyrocketed. You controll nothing but your bases. Explosions occurs on daily basis, hundrends of thousands civilians dead. You have turned the place into complete mess and now fianlly run from there with tail between your legs. Have you constructed a single school or hospital for the locals? You control the situation so better, that it's simply not possible to carry out any construction over there. Not that you ever had an intention to do something good for those rag heads.

                  Yes - you do better.

When we quit the Afghanistan we have left a puppet socialist regime there, which could still be in charge, if Gorby didn't betray him by refusing to supply its with ammunition and spare parts. Still that regime fought vs. the Taliban sponsored by US on his own, all alone without ANY support and supply for an entire year. Let's see how long your current puppet (even sponsored and fully supplied by US) would hold on when you quit the Afghanistan.

The Soviets succeeded in killing a million people in Afghanistan and wounding millions more. It's too bad they weren't ****ty and cowardly warriors.

Russia was more cowardly... using helicopters and jets against EVERYTHING

America at least tries to avoid killing innocent people.

For Russia, killing innocent people is the goal.
