  • What the heck is a "Bruno Mars"?

Why were they wearing sparkly gold lounge singer jackets? Why did they bring instruments onstage and not play them? Are they some sort of latter-day Monkees? I was only watching to see if the RHCP had visibly aged, but they came off looking pretty good by comparison.

    Also, the hair. WHY?

That was the best halftime show I can ever remember. RHCP kind of almost ruined it.

Finally had a musician I listen to

And Bruno Mars is one guy:

"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi

You got a problem with pompadours?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Also, totally wrong cultural touchstone. Bruno is Motown oldschool with a modern flare.

He has sold over 115 million records worldwide and has a catalog of 22 "Hot 100" hits as a singer, producer and songwriter.
And you never heard of him.

This is true but Bruno Mars is not quite Raphael Saadiq. The former Tony! Toni! Tone! singer is the real Motown with a modern flare:

Albie you are the last person who should be criticizing anyone on pop cultural awareness, for instance judging by the movies with Philip Seymour Hoffman that you haven't seen.

Elok thinks this is channeling the Monkees:

Elok, do you know who this is?

I'm really baffled by how he's sold so many records because I've never heard a song by him that's actually any good.

Besides being commercially popular, he is critically acclaimed.

                      Try harder next time.

What makes critics any better at judging his music than anyone else?

Bruno Mars is talented, but I don't care for his music. It sucks. He's got a lot of talent. But the music is awful. I don't know if that makes any sense.

BTW, commercially popular and/or critically acclaimed does not necessarily mean it's good.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Media companies who ultimately own rights to a lot of music hire people to say good things so that people will buy the music.

So that means they are really good and know what they are talking about.

What else is there? It is popular and critically acclaimed. What else could possibly be required to make something good besides your personal approval?
