Step 2: nod off without removing needle from arm
Step 3: OD and die, needle is still in arm

Like I said, I might watch Punch Drunk Love one day.

And we're terrible as beings in making rational choices about our long term health. We know smoking is incredibly addictive and likely to kill us, but look how many people try smoking. And people do take heroin and not die. So yeah, it's a more extreme example, but I bet you know lots of people who smoke, or who've tried smoking, who are married and have kids. And smoking kills a lot more people than heroin. As does alcohol.
Oh christ this does not make it not a choice to start using drugs. People have agency and responsibility for their actions. It's not like you can just start shooting up and say "welp it was out of my hands, peer pressure."

A lot of people make bad decisions, but they were still bad decisions key word decisions which they made. What Sava is suggesting is that nobody has any responsibility for their actions whatsoever.

Let's go back to the definition of a decision. Even if we're dealing with the most ridiculous '80s drug pusher stereotype, you can always just say no. In the real world, it's way more likely that you approach the dealer rather than the other way around in which case you've got multiple opportunities in which you have the option not to use drugs. Many people choose wrongly but they still choose.

Why? It seems like a good movie.

There's been a bunch of recent movies I would like to see, though, like Silver Linings Playbook, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Her.

Welcome to the world of modern criminology/criminal justice. In an attempt to determine and mitigate the social conditions that influence criminal activity, academics have externalized the causes of crime and absolved individuals of personal responsibility. The justice system serves to correct the social wrongs inflicted upon perpetrators through education and rehabilitation, not to punish or inhibit wrong-doing.

It's on the list now. Charlie Kaufman

My girlfriend isn't too much of a fan of my taste in movies. She likes crime dramas (especially with serial killers and other mentally ill people), action flicks, Lord of the Rings, etc. She is really into a costume drama called A Royal Affair though. She's watched that like 6 or 7 times.

Don't blame academics. "Free will" isn't a scientific hypothesis.

addiction is not a choice...addiction...means they already used enough to become...addicted

not the same as the choice to start
