Personally I'm not a big fan of VapoRub, it works by producing an irritating effect on repsiratory system mucosa. It increases secretions and maybe even swelling in the nosal cavity. Is that really a good idea? Whatever you do, do not apply it to the nose, lips or mouth because with inhalation of sufficient quantities it can cause a chemical pneumonitis.

A word of warning: we are in the middle of influenza season, and influenza can be extremely dangerous to babies his age. So if he develops a fever, it would be wise to have him checked out at his doctor's office. We are also in the middle of RSV season, which is a rather nasty virus that can cause some babies to wheeze as if they were having an asthma attack. This can range from trivial to life-threatening. So if you hear an expiratory wheeze, or his nose is flaring with every breath, or his chest wall sinks in in between or above or below his ribs with every breath, call his doctor.

WTF? 18C is recommended temperature for babies to sleep in, from the NHS. It's about 65F, perfectly comfortable for sleeping.
