lots of social advances have been won, or helped by, protests, strikes, civil disobedience and yes, even violence.

(and this is also a response to dd's post 66) the point is not so much to win hearts and minds with the action itself, but rather to get people thinking and talking about the issue. because, with women's rights, like say, universal suffrage or slavery, once people start asking and discussing the question "should women have control over their own bodies?" it's fairly clear which side is going to win. there are arguments against women having control of their bodies, but those arguments, like those in favour of slavery or against universal suffrage, are actually pretty weak.

well that's obviously not what happened, but anyway here's a definition of totalitarian.

Of, relating to, being, or imposing a form of government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life, the individual is subordinated to the state, and opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed

Recently a man was forced to take a drug test because he has muscles. Is it ok for him to rub his dick on the police woman?

One does not cheer for or defend violence for "social advances". At best, we understand why violence may be used because those who are using such violence are voiceless otherwise (a la Nelson Mandela, PLO, etc). This is not the case here.

On your secondary paragraph, it depends if you are trying to force the debate into that question. Abortion rights are FAR more than "do women have control over their own bodies". That is the reason why most countries put limits in the 3rd trimester. There is another life to contend with there. Making into such a simplistic question is completely the wrong thing to do.

                      a) The shift key exists for a reason.
                      b) I would imagine that such an event would by its very nature obscure and drown out any discussion it might seek to promote.

The fact that your message fails in such circumstances and you feel you must resort to violence does not speak to any nefarious effort on the part of he Catholic Church, but rather the weakness of your position followed by your own lack of confidence in it, so much so that you have abandoned convincing people and resorted to compelling them . Congratulations?
