Ah yes, I can perfectly imagine cops would find a white girl accompagnied by two white men so suspicious they'd ignore authorising papers, they'd call the parents to ask: "Are you aware your daughter is with two white men?" and even then not be satisfied. Describing them as black isn't the racist thing. Locking them all up because you can't possibly believe that a white girl could reasonably be with two responsible adults, who had legal custody of her purely because the responsible adults were black, is racist.

Sorry but that's a total crock of ****. Perhaps if blacks weren't stopped, searched, detained and incarcerated in numbers far, FAR exceeding their proportional demographic then you could expect people to give US cops the benefit of the doubt, but they are, and stories like this just show just how alive and well institutionalized racism is in law enforcement. It still happens here too, but at least here they had a huge review, accepted it was a problem and took steps to deal with it. Trying to claim that it's all just in the imaginations of the people who call it out, is beyond insulting.

Many of the cities in Illinois keep stats on that. It has helped immensely. DWB and DWH stops used to be a really bad problem in our town but in the last 10 years it has been reduced dramatically.
So don't paint the entire US (cops) with the same paint brush. Things are getting better.

You're so naive.

When one reads about the calling officer's statement, "Are you aware your daughter is with two black men?" One could read that, imagining the tone of fear, prejudice, or disgust in that officer's voice. It doesn't take any stretch of the imagination to come to the conclusion that this was very probably racist behavior, given our country's "stellar" track on race relations.

NO ONE HERE IS SAYING THAT DESCRIBING SOMEONE AS BEING BLACK IN OF ITSELF IS RACIST. IT'S ABOUT CIRCUMSTANCES AND CONTEXT. And in this circumstance and context, the way the officer felt compelled to describe the persons as being black was probably very much racist.

There's a line between being objective, and being obtuse. But then, you probably wouldn't know racism even if it slapped you in the face.
