Anywho, the point of NaNoWriMo, for me, is to practice a very specific writing skill: the skill of conquering the white page. (I practice other writing skills in other months.)

Edit: Additionally, plenty of writers will tell you that writing novels and writing short stories are very different skills. Some will even tell you that writing a short story is harder than writing a novel. So one is not necessarily a substitute for another, unless all you're trying to do is learn how to write good prose.
What is this novel writing month you speak of?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month, aka November.

I thought NaNoWriMo was some kind of awful Nintendo character.

**** if I know. I've never tried to write so much as a creative sentence, let alone a novel. I think it is "organized" on roughly the same level as "Shark Week" or "Secretary's Day". A bunch of people just said this is National Novel Writing Month, and it serves as a challenge/motivator for those interested.

FWIW said deputy was in favor of strapping cameras to all of the county's cops because of the fact that they could deflect a lot of bogus complaints with them.
Why would chain of custody be an issue? It wouldn't be unless someone said the video was doctored or not representative in some way. This isn't drug or dna evidence, it's not like anyone is claiming the video is tainted.

Yes. There are about 300,000 participants this year. Maryland alone has produced 35 million words. I get together at Panera a couple nights a week to write with my NaNo writing buddies.

Writers of yore would find their creativity at the bottom of a rum bottle. Today you find it at the bottom of a cup of soup.

We have one department (City of Whitewater) who has put video/audio equipment on all of their officers. I don't know any of the details about their policies about it. I think it's something like any time they leave their car they are susposed to turn it on, or any time they are having a citizen contact (so they don't have to turn on their camera to go to the bathroom). They have been doing it for about a year and I'm sure we'll hear shortly about what the effectiveness of those cameras have been.
