Why recording police is neccesary for liberty
Does anyone aside from police unions, police departments, and prosecuting attorneys, really oppose videotaping police and if so, why?"I hope I get to punch you in the face one day" - MRT144, Imran Siddiqui

Not true. Any able bodied person can violate someone else's liberty at will. Especially when guns are so easy to get. What's the crime rate of police officers relative to the general population?
How costly is it to videotape all police officers at all times? Not only do you have to pay for the cameras, you also make becoming a police officer less attractive when you invade their privacy and potentially have to offer police officers higher salaries in order to attract enough recruits.

And I'm sure it'll be cost feasible at some point shortly. You only really need to do the on duty officers as far as im concerned, but only because I naively believe cops will treat other cops the same as the rest of the citizenry when they're involved in a crime. Personally, I dont want cops who are uncomfortable being filmed on the job, because their job should absolutely be under scrutiny and accountability. What I heard from a deputy at my shooting range is that they considered strapping cameras to all of their officers' vests but the problem has to do with evidence chain of custody; if they wanted to use it in a case, they'd have to follow evidence rules or something for all of the recordings which would be a huge hassle.
FWIW said deputy was in favor of strapping cameras to all of the county's cops because of the fact that they could deflect a lot of bogus complaints with them.

I'll walk back my statement - Individual citizens should document any interaction with police they are involved with or observe. There should be no law abridging this ability from the citizenry and it is one of the few ways to keep police honest besides being a good person who becomes a police officer yourself (and then you become Serpico)"I hope I get to punch you in the face one day" - MRT144, Imran Siddiqui

WOW! You know about Serpico? Cool.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

For my NaNo novel this year, I almost decided to write a story in which a society lives under persistent, pervasive surveillance/sousveillance, and the populace slowly begins to fail to notice that which cannot be recorded.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.
