Maybe some people like freedom water. Not everyone wants to drink chardonnay. Are you going to deny them that choice?Originally posted by Sava View PostCleaning up just costs money. It doesn't make money. It's cheaper to deny that the polluted water is bad. We'll call it "freedom water".

Are you aware of the concept of "externality"? If not there is a wikipedia article on the subject. Thanks in advance.Originally posted by gribbler View PostMaybe some people like freedom water. I mean, I love lead based paint and mercury filled soil. It's awful that the government doesn't allow me the choice. To us, it is the BEAST. To us, it is the BEAST.

But it's Australia, which means the toxic water will probably be a bonanza to a whole bunch of nasty snakes and scorpions.Originally posted by Sava View PostYeah, if this were America I'd be concerned about the environmental hazards.DISCLAIMER: the author of the above written texts does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for any offence and insult; disrespect, arrogance and related forms of demeaning behaviour; discrimination based on race, gender, age, income class, body mass, living area, political voting-record, football fan-ship and musical preference; insensitivity towards material, emotional or spiritual distress; and attempted emotional or financial black-mailing, skirt-chasing or death-threats perceived by the reader of the said written texts.

Good point. We need to invent something with more capacity. Maybe like a trench or channel from a higher altitude to a lower altitude wherein liquids can be transported by the force of gravity? Does anyone have any applicable patents?Originally posted by regexcellent View PostAll of these assumptions about piping water are assuming certain things about the amount of water needed. I would not be surprised if you need several times as much volume of water as you get out crude/gas.

Okay so the water supply is actually a big bottleneck in fracking. Which confirms my concern that you'd need a really big pipeline to transport it and it wouldn't be cost effective.

It also says that salty water can be used, although it doesn't say what the salinity is; it could very well be much less saline than seawater.
