He doesn't. In his mind people in DC are paragons of political correctness and his argument is that if even they don't see anything wrong with the name, then the name can't be offensive.

No one disputes that the name is 'offensive.' Anything that offends someone is 'offensive.' Your mistake is thinking 'being offended' isn't a conscious choice.

Racial slurs shouldn't be team names. Whether or not people care is irrelevant.

But I don't expect a conservative Southerner to understand why racism is bad.

You are a walking contradiction. The first half of your post made it clear that bascially no one understands why 'racism is bad,' not just conservative white southerners..

There are actually people on this board who think they should change their name? Seriously? I thought that was a position so ridiculous as to be its own parody.

My statement about jumping down a well stands. Nobody important cares about your stupid manufactured controversy, least of all the Redskins owner who has a 100% stake and for non-financial reasons wants to keep the name.

Can liberals please stop doing this thing where they get together and say "hey what's the next dumb thing we should get offended about and make mountains out of molehills over?"

Again. If nobody cares, there's no reason not to change it.

How is this a mountain? Nobody here is in front of the stadium protesting. It is a molehill.

It is also a good business decision to change the name... just like a star player changing numbers. In order to stay up to date, fans have to buy all new merchandise.

The real question is, why is it so important that they don't change? Just because change, in general, makes you uncomfortable?

                      Get over it.

Or maybe you are just a spiteful little shit who likes offending people.

You really don't understand the modern South, do you?

That is not what I said, dufus. Nobody cares about the controversy. Lots of people care about the name not changing because that would be inconvenient, confusing, stupid, and pointless. Being offended by this is a conscious choice, like every other liberal cause du jour.

It is incredibly amusing that Obama decided to make this an issue in the middle of a government closure. Signals either that he is manipulative or stupid.
