I'm definitely not a slacker. The three managers at our Staples store certainly appreciate how hard I work, complimented me on excellent customer service. But I have noticed that there are at least two other employees at our store who do not seem to work as hard or diligently as they should.

And over years, I have applied for countless gainfully employed type jobs that would come with greater responsibilities but with no success in spite of the transferable skills and experience that I have.

Unless you're thinking that because I work a just-above minimum wage job, that this makes me a slacker. In that case, you're making a prejudiced blanket statement that all working poor people are lazy, no matter how hard they work at their job, or how reliable they are at work.

    • You're not a slacker because you did a great job explaining to the braindead idiots who walk through the door how to buy office supplies... right...

          • No one has any basis to accuse MrFun of laziness. I personally think he has excellent work ethic, for what it is worth.

His job may not be the most glamorous in existence, but only idiots measure people like that.

            • Mrfun: you should be proud of helping people however you can. Including with office supplies.

I don't know if gribbler is just ****ing with you. I hope so. Assuming he is still a student, you've contributed way more than he has to society.

                • Obviously I'm just ****ing around. Like if someone claimed that poor people are either lazy or stupid... no one would seriously claim that.

                  • I would like to add, for whatever it is worth, that of all the jobs that I have held, the one I am (totally serious) most proud of is when I was a cashier at a grocery store. It was unpleasant, had horrible hours, and I wouldn't do it again if I could avoid it. But it taught me something more valuable than anything I've ever learned at school, which is to not consider yourself "above" certain jobs, or the people that hold them. I also learned the very valuable skill of doing something because you are told to even if you don't want to, and to be polite to people even when they are impolite to you, skills I previously lacked.

Your parents never taught you these things?

When your house exceeds a certain number of bathrooms, your morals tend to go by the wayside.

Sorry if I find it more acceptable to call 90% of the first world lazy or stupid than I find it to pick on somebody who's described his clinical depression and job travails to us honestly.
