I read one of the Jack Jr. books and it was utter garbage. Also, not written by him.

They were worse than in his prime, but not bad. If I understand correctly, it was cowritten. I enjoyed them anyway. But nothing beats the old gems.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10

No he was un-retired for his latest series about Jack Junior. He's actually president again.
I'm sure he wrote quite a small percentage of it though.
I thought that in his divorce settlement that his wife was awarded a percentage of the JR books so that's when he moved on to his other op series since he was bitter. There was a long gap before the Jack Junior books were done.
But eventually money trumped revenge so viola JR was back. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

He hasn't written a book in years (decades even) and instead he does nothing but pay ghost writers to write books which they then slap his name on.
Still sad to see him go though. I really liked reading Red Storm Rising when I was a kid; so much so I actually bought and played the C64 game with the same name.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

I enjoy reading old Tom Clancy books largely for the opportunity to sojourn in an utterly foreign mentality: the world of the proud 'Murican, where men are stoic and conservative in a fair-minded way and there's only ever one legitimate way of looking at a situation. RIP.

The old books were essentially US > USSR. So yes, there is only one legitimate way of looking at that situation.
He never acted like the Soviet people themselves were inhuman *******s, just that their country and government and ideology was shit, which it was.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

I wasn't referring to the political situation, necessarily. All the "good" characters all have roughly the same ideology and perspective, even characters from radically different backgrounds. The kind of perspective that replies, to every question, "well, shucks, I don't know about that, but I reckon it's only fair and square to [etc]"
