  • Yeah, even as a repug I had to chuckle at this one a bit. It's hard to marshal congress when the entire opposition strategy is to oppose anything you propose.
It is nice to see some of the more moderate members of the opposition starting to grumble. It has to start somewhere.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

It's not going to work but I can still recognize a good point when I see one. We have a president more willing to sit down and negotiate with America's enemies than he is to talk with fellow Americans.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

The Republican Party has done more to damage the United States than Putin could have ever dreamed.

It makes you wonder who the real enemy is.
To us, it is the BEAST.

I only say this because I heard many different estimates this morning, and I'm sure they're all calculated differently depending on what you're trying to support.
I've also seen estimates of $200 million/day and $300 million/day. At this point, it's all just talking points in the battle for media dominance.

Yes. That seems to be the more reported figure. The one I saw was on liberal-scaremongerer MSNBC.

            • The cost of "lost" wages for federal employees is a joke. As always, they will pay them in arrears...this amounts to nothing more than a paid vacation for them.

The impact to the larger economy will be a bit more dire, but not devastating. Delayed mortgages...lost tourism dollars...etc... Most of the stuff will be funded retroactively and not have a long term impact, but there are a few things that will be lost for sure.

It is a really interesting situation. Large polling against the Republicans standing up to Obamacare and large polling against Obamacare. The American people always want their cake and eat it to.

If Harry Reid's offer to negotiate on Obamacare if he receives a "clean" CR from the House is real, then the Republicans need to spin it as a victory (yeah, right), pass the bill, and hold the democrats feet to the fire for the next 15 days.

Historically the American people have never liked government shutdowns. They don't actually make anyone pay a price for them at the ballot box but they still don't like them.

Reid, for one, indicated he's open to working with the House on budgetary matters -- "but not with the government closed" and not by making it all about the legislation widely known as Obamacare.

Vague for sure, but definitely there. Bolding is mine.

                    • Yeah, reading and seeing that the workers got their pay in the past anyway was the most disturbing item. All the cost and damage but no benefit. Typical government.
I can't see Obama not doing the same thing.

                      • Yup, people living paycheck to paycheck should suffer. Mortgage? Should have thought twice about getting that job before buying that house.

Sorry rah, but that puts you at reg and HC level of heartlessness.

                        • Most workers in the market place that are given a furlough don't get paid. I don't see why government employees should be any different.
I don't think believing that they should be treated the same makes me heartless.
I feel sympathy for any worker not getting paid, but that doesn't change the facts here. I have been in that boat before.

And I think it is kind of a hypocrisy. They vote not to provide funds but then after it's over, say never mind just so the anger against them is minimized.

If you're going to shut down the government you should take ownership of it.
