Are you just picking the metric that supports the conclusion you want to reach?

No, I'm picking the metric that takes into account the actual price of goods and services. Americans are wealthier than Swedes because while they might nominally have a higher GDP per capita, we actually have more stuff.

Just because PPP estimates are made with the intention of taking into account differences in the cost of living does not mean they actually represent real wealth more accurately.

If this were correct, these treatments wouldn't even be available, since almost nobody would have gotten them before...

                    • I love reg's logic. He's working. Paying taxes. Paying for other people's health care.

Other people are working. Paying taxes. BUT THEY NEED TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN GORRAM HEALTHCARE

Guess what reg. My household income is over $250k. Total taxes are around 40% (state and federal). And you are complaining about 10-15%?

Psshhh. Other people are subsidizing your life.

                      SO SHUT THE **** UP

                      • Other people aren't subsidizing my healthcare (well in some sense they are, due to tax preferences). I was referring to living in sweden and getting public healthcare. Also, other people shouldn't subsidize my life and I shouldn't subsidize theirs.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Nobody lives on an island. Even in businesses, paying customers subsidize the ability for other customers to enjoy perks... like bathrooms in restaurants. Owners know full well that without their customers, they wouldn't be able to stay in business.

The concept of collective ownership and responsibility isn't going away. So learn to deal with it... or remain some idiotic whiny little *****. I don't care. I'm just trying to help you out.

The percentage of income I pay in taxes is lower due to most of it being capital gains.

Take it up with Mitt Romney if you have a problem with that.

And also, you don't see me *****ing about stuff like that. If anything, I'm more than grateful for the public goods I benefit from.
