No they are not. Some people with guns are the problem. Most people with guns are fine. That is the simple truth.

If people were taught personal responsibility, then "some people with guns" would most likely not be a problem either

If you could somehow manage to keep guns out of the wrong hands I would agree with you. But you can't.

And how do we ensure that people are taught personal responsibility?

I believe that this is one of society's greatest challenges now. Personal responsibility seems to have taken a back seat to collective responsibility. I am not sure that I know the answer, but I do know that finding the answer is important.

Yes, but how do we, as a society, go about teaching personal responsibility? I'm not asking for lesson plans. I'm asking what force in society has the reach and power necessary to do it?

It is an approach guaranteed to ensure no progress is made on the gun issue.

Clearly - guns. Put a gun to his head, tell him what to do, and he will responsibly do it. Easiest teaching method ever, it even works for the mob.

                            Al Capone.

You can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

As quoted in Forbes (6 October 1986)
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I am lethal, but I am not stupid. The vast majority of gun owners are very responsible.

                                People who generalize are realistic.

Fact: Homicide deaths fall when fewer people own guns.
