My Dad was a marine with the 2nd Marine Division. Saw combat on Tarawa and Saipan. He always referred to the Japanese as "The Japs". In the 1970's he was instrumental in getting Komatsu heavy machinery established in the U.S. He made several trips to Japan and we even hosted a dinner at our home for the President of Komatsu and the President of Komatsu America. The President of Komatsu did not speak a word of English. I will never forget when the President of Komatsu America asked my father if he had ever been to Japan before. My dad answered him, "Yes, once." The guy asked him when that was and dad just said "1945". The President of Komatsu American just answered "Oh." and then there was some silence for a minute and the topic turned back to business. It was a very odd situation. I was only 12 or so at the time, but I will always remember that moment.

How come Guam is still an American colony after so many years?

Because the inhabitants want to be. How come the Kirils are still Russian?

Mostly because the Guamanians enjoy sucking from Uncle Sam's tit. Seriously, their economy would collapse without all the welfare programs, government employees, military ships & aircraft, etc... Something like half of the Islanders work for the US government and a large chunk of the other half gets Social Security, medicare, or some other form of public assistance so they're not going to vote to eliminate their own pay checks.

Speaking of napalm... Vietnam now says it wants to be a US strategic ally so maybe napalm does work as well.

It also doesn't hurt if the regional giant wants to take parts of your territory.

Nuking them only served to make them disturbingly obsessed with women's panties.

Because only Russians live there, if I guessed what you had tried to spell.

Only because the thousands of Japanese that lived there fled after 1945 because of the Red Army (Thanks for the spelling, I did indeed mean the Kuril Islands).

Giving it back would lead to a peace treaty between Russia and Japan (which, oddly enough, are still technically at war.) I can see keeping lower Sakhalin due to territorial integrity, but the Kuril's should be Japanese.

I could also say that all the citizens of Guam are Americans just as easily as they are American citizens and we have had Guam since 1898.

What do you call people from Guam?

                        Guamese? Guamians? Guamites? Guaman?
To us, it is the BEAST.

Old women from Guam are Guammas.

I go to Guam often. The battle to retake it was bloodier than Guadal Canal.
