      18. There are some glaring holes in my read list. I do however have 31 Asimov books on my bookshelf right now.

8 books from the second list that snoopy posted.

Ringworld wasn't even the best larry niven book. Definitely The Smoke Ring/Integral Trees.

        I don't like Asimov much.

Oh yeah, and my list is:

          Lord of the Rings
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Ender's Game (Possibly my favorite book)
          Dune
          A Game of Thrones
          1984
          Fahrenheit 451
          Frankenstein
          Ringworld
          Small Gods
          Going Postal
          The Sword of Shannara
          Thrawn Trilogy
          Red Mars

I started reading Anathem, not sure if I'm going to finish it. I've also read parts of Animal Farm, Brave New World, Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse Five, and Watchmen.

Those worlds are certainly more popular than 3/4ths of the books which did make the list.
stuff I wouldn't read if you held me at gunpoint

To each his own I suppose.

If you want a "better" list, how about http://www.listchallenges.com/hugo-a...s-1946-2012-in ? 51/64 here, not great and missing some important ones, but at least one of those 13 is the Harry Potter novel
Hmmmm... only 47. I thought I had read most of the Hugo award winners. And like you, No Harry Potter for me either.
I've voted for the Hugo awards many times, and there are a "few" winners I didn't vote for

The thrawn trilogy is, surprisingly, legitimately good fiction in its own right, independent of star wars. But it's the only star wars book that isn't crap.

By the way, it bothers me that the reading rainbow video says "retro junk" on it. I'm 20. Things that happened when I was in grade school are not retro.

I'm not sure being a bookworm makes you a nerd.

Movies are not books. One does not read a movie.
