Thought that was HC and Indonesia.

Of course it is sometimes hard to tell the difference.

I have no idea what any of this is about other than the Facebook meme graphics my friends post which either (metaphorically) proclaim this guy Jesus or Lucifer. This leads me to the conclusion that it's reasonable to maintain the status quo, and not read up on anything dealing with whatever this is about. I do however enjoy the graphics.

Like this one that just popped up in my feed. I really like how they get you thinking that government is going to go to jail ... but instead it's something totally different and unforseen! See for yourself!

I know Manning's dump cost a lot of innocent lives. The Taliban and other jihadi groups went around killing people mentioned, many if not most of whom didn't even know their conversations were being reported. The bulk of those conversations concerned things like aid projects.

Meanwhile most of what was released, I was mentioned a few times btw, show folks going about their business and doing good things, mundane stuff fully backed by democratic governments. A close read of the material blows wiki-leaks style big government conspiracy theorists right out of the water. There were some terrible things revealed, but did it change anything? Not much, and certainly not worth the cost in innocent lives

reg recently endorsed collective punishment in a thread about israel-palestine.

Is collective punishment what they're calling war now? Hamas shooting rockets at israel is not a matter for the Israeli police or justice system, and self-defense is not collective punishment. Get real.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

Yes, being at war with the society such as it is in Gaza and acting accordingly--using economic and military means to shut down the ability of the enemy to fight and break its will--is collective punishment now.

But that's not what this thread is about, this thread is about a ****stain who got mad at his superiors and decided to get back at the army and then retroactively justified his behavior with a flimsy claim of "whistleblowing."

Manning should go to jail for a long time, this wasn't like the Pentagon Papers, releasing strategic/policy material. His actions in releasing operational reports led directly to deaths.

i'm not really interested in debating the subject with you because a) you don't know what you're talking about and b) your moral compass is broken. however, allow me to quote the boy himself.

Comparing the strike that killed the Reuters guys would be a plain insult to the Vietnamese and those neighbouring yellow ones.

The Reuters reporters getting killed was an accident, and also one that could have been easily avoided by the Reuters folks by simply not hanging around with insurgents. It wasn't some kind of assassination of opposition journalists.

Between "The Reuters reporters getting killed was an accident" and "It wasn't some kind of assassination of opposition journalists." this is a perfectly reasonable post.

That's the irony - Manning's actions led to deaths as awful as that terrible incident.

Yeah okay, so basically he's saying that economic sanctions fall under warfare, and you can technically call that collective punishment? Yes, Israel has every right to do that. Next question.
