He just wants to be part of a group. If Catholics might take them, he'll make a token effort. Pretty much the reason he's spent his whole life dealing with rejection issues.

Not sure about being part of that group, but was raised that way, and a lot of the teachings line up. Except for the stupid stuff. It's not required that you believe all of it.It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
