With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

They should perform in a quasi-Disneyland like the British royals.

At times, Americans have shown a disastrous tendency to direct this impulse towards the office of the president. The Brits don't have to worry about that, because they've directed all the overbearing pomp of power towards a perfectly harmless batch of figureheads.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

As in, it's just what you europeans would consider normal pension obligations for every employer, but we only offer it to people who actually deserve it.
Well actually I wish that were true; government pensions are ludicrous but the president is one of the few people who actually deserves his.

Nah, a fair pension is reasonable, but why shouldn't former presidents pay for their own security ? That can't be the states responsibility. With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. Because lots of people hate them after they do the job? It's like being responsible for a soldiers PTSD."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

True, but they probably also hated them before they got elected and there they got no protection. With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Nah, they were all politicians before president. Lots of people already hated them for their job."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow
