I think he's referring to the fact that you USians have been mislabelling progressives as liberals, whereas most of the world had the sense to just call them progressives and keep liberal to its original meaning.

Maybe he should have said as much then.

But regardless, the USian "liberals" of today would have been the liberals of the day in the 18th century. My original point stands as fact.
To us, it is the BEAST.

No more like the progressives of the 19th century when the French revolution went awry and lead to the advent of Engle-Marx philosophical bent.

See. Modern conservatives would side with the monarchists any day of the week.

Yeah...because modern conservatives just love government.

But that's the thing. A monarchy is about as small a government as you can get! One guy!

Conservatives just hate representative democracy. Be honest.

Conservatives (real conservatives) hate intrusive government. The right to be free to make your own choices is fundamental to conservatism. What has happened is that RELIGIOUS conservatism has gotten the upperhand in the Party and in the Press. True conservatives have little platform for their views these days because their views make sense and are not controversial enough to make the nightly news.

Missing your history a bit. Conservatives seethe third way of limited self governence rather than the anarchy brought about by class warfare.

Guys like Adams, Franklin and Washington who were horrified by what transpired to the French.

I would tend to agree with you. However, so called "real" conservatives, the Ron Paul nuts, would defend "coloreds only/white's only" practices in the South. And ultimately, the supremacy of the private individual (as a God-given right) is monarchy.

I am a real conservative. I live in the South. I would never defend racism.

                            Your theory fails. Sorry.

Ron Paul isn't a real conservative?
