If a majority of the people like a movie, and you don't, I don't think that qualifies as defective, and I sure don't see that as an attempt to deceive people out of their hard earned money.
So much is personal likes. And we know you can't please everyone.

I will not pay by buying a dvd for Prometheus.
There is very few movies that I would disagree with the norm. Actually it is the other way around.
I like the first two Spiderman movies with Tobey Maguire.
Also like that movie Pearl Harbor.

    BTW
Would you agree the George Lucas did those three movies for profit or that he actually cared about the trilogy?

I have NetFlix and these movies do show up for viewing. Is this not paying for them?

There was nothing deceptive about the ads. They clearly mentioned Gore Verbinski and showed Johnny Depp pretending to be a Native American with a dead bird on his head. There was really no reason to believe the movie would not be, at best, a borderline stinker.

But let's accentuate the positive. Here are some sort-of-recent-ish movies which do not suck IMO:

      Little Miss Sunshine
      The Dark Knight
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and everything else Brad Bird made except that Mission Impossible sequel I didn't see
      The Avengers
      Crazy Stupid Love
      Rango
      True Grit
      The King's Speech

Still cautiously optimistic about Ender's Game. Pacific Rim looks silly but it's Guillermo del Toro so I'll likely go see it anyway.

The King's Speech was a glorified Masterpiece Theater. Maybe it didn't "suck" per se, but sucked far worse than "The Social Network".

Or if you act like an entitled ass then anything can be justified as "done intentionally defective".

mentioning the word "entitled" has become a bit like godwin

Also, while you're on Netflix, get yourself some good kung-fu movies. Kung-Fu Hustle if you haven't seen it, Ip Man, and especially Master of the Flying Guillotine. That one's old and hokey, but it's just too trippy not to watch.

And I'm sure Walmart is really hurting if you shoplift Revenge of the Sith - shoplifting is moral to you?

I don't watch MT, so I guess it's a case of "it's new to me." Anyway, I found it enjoyable enough. Wouldn't say it was great. Didn't see The Social Network because I'm pretty apathetic about FB itself, let alone the dude who made it.
