It's only weird if you've never heard of it before. I agree that it might be ****ing weird to a middle schooler. And I disagree that homophobia is something that is taught. Rather, homophobia is something that can be prevented, if the child is introduced to it as normal by the parents.

This would be a different challenge - against Alabama state law prohibiting marriage equality, not against the DOMA.

Marriage equality is a stupid and loaded term. Marriage as it exists in the majority of the US is not discriminatory as gay people are allowed to marry each other. Also, Alabama doesn't have a state law prohibiting it so much as it lacks a law creating such an institution, and also has the definition for marriage within its borders written into its constitution.

It doesn't have laws against "marriage equality" any more than any place in the world did 200 years ago, at a time when people would look at you funny for saying something so nonsensical.

For someone who doesn't care about this issue, you sure foam and froth at the mouth a lot about it.

You know what else they would have looked at you funny for saying?

            a) that slavery was wrong
            b) that women should be able to decide just about anything for themselves
            c) that you talk to people on a small lighted box

Thankfully we (or at least most of us) have progressed since then. Let go of your hate and join the modern world

Framing is important, as politics is lot like advertising.
