Btw, the reason it's important that equal rights for gays become institutionalized (besides the obvious) is that it means children are raised in a society in which homosexuality is normal and acceptable. That's how you combat homophobia. When gay marriage is just another thing that happens, then your crazy old grandfather who rants about how in his day sodomy was illegal is just that--your crazy old grandfather.

Kids don't have a problem with homosexuality, they don't bat an eyelid at gay couples. It's only when prejudice is trained into them.

Same thing with skin color / race. They couldn't care less.

Amazing how much evilness is poured into our children...

Indeed. My girlfriend (an elementary school teacher in a very diverse neighborhood) can attest to this. When she explains slavery and the Civil War and all that to them, they just don't get it. They ask, "But teacher, how did they decide who was black and who was white?" and "Am I black or brown?" Because the kids are all born from mixed race parents and they all have black friends and Hispanic friends and African friends.

Now, all that said, her school is far from post-racial. Teaching in a diverse neighborhood also means all of her kids' parents are poor and/or in jail.

Seems like a particularly strange objection for an exceptionally unlikely situation. People would fake a marriage to get better quarters? Really?
It's actually not an uncommon practice for heterosexual "couples".

So gay couple gets married in California. Then they move to Alabama. What happens then?

Alabama presumably isn't required to recognize something that it doesn't have an equivalent for. So they're no longer married under state law. Though I imagine if they moved subsequently to a place where it is recognized, their marriage benefits will resume. Unless the supreme court decides to do another goddamn power grab and invent some new constitutional rights.

Then they sue and hopefully state bans get over turned under the 14th amendment. I notice on the DOMA ruling they ruled based on the 5th so it seems they were trying to keep it as narrow as possible but now it is only a matter of time before it all gets unraveled. All it's going to take is someone with standing and a few years for the case to work it's way to the Supreme Court.

Yeah, because the 14th is just so brand new.

How can a state file a challenge to the SCOTUS after they have ruled? can they?

Presumably, they recognized as married in Alabama wrt State law in accordance with the Public Policy exception to Full Faith and Credit.

Evidently you've never been to middle school because that wasn't my experience. Prejudice against gay people didn't appear out of thin air; it comes from the fact that sticking your dick in another man's ass is weird and there's no way around it. I'm perfectly happy accepting that it's not my business but honestly, the idea that there's nothing unnatural about it is retarded.
