This, a thousand times. It's incredibly annoying.
And I'm not even particularly upset at the ruling (though I think Roberts was probably correct), and I'm not upset at all with the policy outcome.

It's obviously terrible when people are happy to see an example of blatant discrimination struck down, especially when it helps improve the lives of their families and friends too. Straight people everywhere should clearly be ashamed of themselves.

Soo, about the woman who sued the federal government over the taxation of the property she inherited when her partner died. The Feds are going to refund her with interest. If she lived in a state that didn't recognise same sex marriages would she not be getting the refund? I'd see that as a problem.

Why? And if she lived in a state without gay marriage, how could she even be married in the first place?

As in, why would it bother him. The whole point of this ruling is that the states get to decide whether to have gay marriage or not, and the feds just have to respect their individual decisions.

By the way, a fun, happy side effect of this is that liberals are no longer screaming bloody murder about yesterday's perfectly reasonable ruling on the VRA. Talk about short attention span.

To be fair, white guilt is almost as annoying as straight guilt.

Unless you're actually a former racist/homophobe, you shouldn't feel guilty. And no one should try to make you feel guilty.

that makes them unhappy when people are treated unfairly

                        its all guilt

It's very hard for me to get worked up over this one way or another. Especially given the not-ultimately-conclusive nature of the ruling. We've reached a milestone in the fight to get a small percentage of the population access to the legal aspect of a dying institution. And, by "milestone," we mean "previous advances against the progressive position have been nullified and any future attacks taking the same general form pre-empted, effectively returning us to the way things were (legally) some time before."

Don't get me wrong, this is a net positive, but mostly I think the entire gay rights fight is merely a proxy war in a broader cultural struggle.

Those here on Apolyton who said that historical issues regarding interracial marriage cannot be compared to issues regarding same sex couples marrying can eat their words now.

                                FYI
If not for the ruling on interracial marriage, I would not be married now. I can sympathize with your struggle.
