In the Philippines the nurses have to "volunteer" at a hospital for two y e a r s before they can put in for overseas work. In Manila the nurses actually have to P A Y for the privilege of volunteering.

Actually finding placement in foreign hospitals world wide is a reputable business here with respected long standing firms. For a nurse to get a job in the US for example costs a couple hundred thousand pesos iirc. If the nurse gets taken advantage of its financially as scams do occur, I recall reading about one. An unknown business claiming to find foreign jobs at cheap rates took the money and ran. I've never heard of a business actually placing nurses in the sex trade. Years ago there was an add on TV in Jagna seeking "dancers" to go to Japan. I saw it and knew immediately what was up, and was heading for the municipal offices when friends stopped me and told me that the women who took those jobs also knew what was going on, but they had no other opportunity in their lives. Here they are known as "Japeokies". Even these Filipinas are very family oriented and their families live in poverty so they can't send them to nursing school which is expensive. They want to help their families. Trying to stop it was impossible. Sad isn't it? So I tried to find foreign men to marry them off to, better than the sex trade. For this I got insulted but who cares? One cousin of my wife is in the US married to a friend of mine and doing very well. Its a strange world. Eh, I'm aware of the "Lancer is a pimp" meme, but I don't know a lot about the details and in the past I've tried to stay out of it. That was mostly a throwaway gag riffing on your u s e of s p a c e d w o r d s for e m p h a s i s. You mentioned overseas work offers in a poor country and naturally sex-traffic lures were the first thing that came to mind. This isn't much coming from someone whose few visits here were for the sole purpose of trolling. This victim-complex is little different from Ben's. People don't treat you like crap because you didn't deserve it.

Lancer, I have great admiration for nurses as so many of them work so hard for so little money. I realize it's also one of the few professions a foreign person of limited means & education can get in the US and qualify for a visa for the US but there seem like so many other jobs out there which pay better and which require fewer hours. Take this one as an example:

No college degree required though it does require "some college" and ~$2000 in non college training in software but I'm pretty sure most junior colleges in oil industry states will offer certificates on those three software suites more or less for free. So... With those limited requirements and a willingness to relocate the starting salary is $75k-$100k and it only goes up from there. The work load would probably be 40 hours per week with medical, dental, 401k. Why wouldn't people take something like that instead of a low pay, high stress job like Nursing?
