    LOL

It's about the only time the standard of living in the Soviet Union came close to that in the West, so yeah it's a pretty good reminder.

Why do you feel the need to respond to a right wing chicken hawk who only cares about Israel?

Incidentally, what does this thread have to do with Israel?

I think Israel would benefit from free market policies. We good now?

No, because you're still a chickenhawk.

You can count on Stalin to make something even worse than a Great Depression.

Yes, it's a good reminder of the benefits of planning against cyclical downturns.

It's a shame the new President seems powerless to change anything. Simply lifting/eliminating price controls would allow the economy to once again start to function yet given that he's only in power because Chavez picked him it's clear he's a space holder who lacks the power (or will) to change anything. In fact any changes he makes would only delegitimize him with the old Chavez base.

I love how the nay sayers are claiming any sort of government planning at all = the exact same thing as communism with total government control of everything. It's like they don't understand there is a whole spectrum out there.

How about 'the new president was picked by Chavez because he wants to run things how Chavez would'?

Good thing the New Deal was able to bring a rapid end to the Great Depression

Seems as good a place as any to post. Entire world economy collapses in a bout of hyperinflation. Won't someone think of poor Tristam.

There's a world of difference between attempts to blunt the impact of slowdowns on individuals and society (a good thing) and attempts to centrally plan production and consumption across the board (a bad thing).
