Well, I gotta say I was very dissapointed. It didn't really feel like a Star trek movie. It felt like a new Star Trek TV series premiere. They tried to put an emotional squeeze on you, but it just doesn't work because you don't have the attachment to the cast that you had with the original.

Not sure if the writing was better or worse than the original series' average episode, but there were a lot of retarded eye-rollingly stupid moments. If you ignored it and paid attention to the action you could get over it, but a 5-10 minute long fist fight on a flying car isn't enough to divide my attention from some of the more amazingly retarded plot holes.

You know, I really really enjoyed the movie while I was in the theater. After I walked out of the theater, I started thinking, "you know, some of that crap was really stupid". Obviously the movie doesn't hold a candle to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, a movie which it pulls from repeatedly, BUT, it was honestly better than probably 90% of Star Trek episodes. The acting was good, the action was good, it was fun. The only serious problem I had with it while I was in the theater was Uhura. Can she just get pushed out an airlock please? She's annoying. Get rid of her and start making more use of Bones. Karl Urban's the second best actor in the movie (the best is Simon Pegg).

Oh yeah, also, the augments have always been the best part of every Star Trek series they've appeared in. One of the best episodes of TOS, definitely the best movie (Wrath of Khan), and by far the best arc in Star Trek: Enterprise. And I think this movie was better than the last one.

I watched this today. I don't think it was as good as the reboot. It was a decent summer action movie, but in my opinion it wasn't a good star trek movie. The opening scene was infuriating. Everything else was ok, a few corny jokes, a major homage, a couple of crappy chase scenes. Oh well.

Though I would like to see a reboot where a picard like figure spent a trilogy of movies trying to grapple with moral dilemmas present by a space syria scenario if they did movies.

If they did a new tv series I would love to see a series set in a TOS era mirror universe. The darker side of the future and mankind. It'd be awesome if it was deadlier to main characters than either the walking dead or game of thrones.

IIRC that rancid ****burger Avatar garnered an 80% or so on RT, so that doesn't mean much.

Avatar was absolutely gorgeous (esp in IMAX 3D). I'd give it a positive review of those visuals alone.

It was a ****ing tech demo, not a movie. You admit as much yourself when the first thing that pops into your mind is how purty it was rather than its plot. 3D in general adds nothing to the value of a movie IMO and only serves to pad the price of the ticket.

Denise Richards was absolutely gorgeous, but she was still a lousy actress. If all you're looking for is an appearance, it's not a movie you're looking for so much as a painting, or a series of paintings. And Avatar failed on just about every other level: plot, characters, dialogue, setting, all cliched, ripped-off, derivative or simply uninspired. The acting...well, there wasn't much to act, since every character barely aspired to one-dimensionality, so I'll give that an N/A grade. I don't remember anything about the music and sound, so I guess those get a pass grade, for what that's worth.

Also, significantly less moral complexity than Michael Bay's Transformers movies.

It was a worthwhile tech demo . And the 3D was absolutely stunning in Avatar.

I still consider it to be a good value.
