    Emotional Spock is meh

Also Starfleet Training is seriously lacking, everytime something Comes down all those Guys do is stare up and lock flabbergasted.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

It really is proper Star Trek.

I was 22 years old in 67, so I have seen them all.

Saw it tonight and it was fun -- and frankly, I was expecting to be disappointed. Seeing it before spoilering was actually fairly important.
                  Cumberbatch was excellent.

Also looking good: the previews of Ender's Game and Elysium.

Exactly. Bang goes any possibility of dramatic tension there. The new Trek is short on ideas, long on crash bang wallop and full of people telling each other the plot.

Benedict Cumberbatch is wasted in it.

                      Seriously?

It looks more like an Occupy Wall Street anthem than an actual movie.

"The 1%...IN SPACE" -- Frankly, that's as close as movies get to high concept creativity.

^I guess age brings wisdom. I saw the movie tonight and liked it. True, not too many original plot points, but very few movies have anything original nowadays.

                                I found it enjoyable escapism.

There are some plot holes you could drive a truck through, and some totally unnecessary pandering. The fact that Abrams phoned it in kind of sucks, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the experience.

I was amused to learn that Fast/Furious 6 won the first-week box office battle vs. Star Trek in Europe.
