Riverworld seems like it should translate easily, but just doesn't. Too much going on, I suspect. You'd have to do more like a miniseries or something, with a big budget.

The Scyfi channel did one without a big budget. It was not well received. (for good reason)

Yah...it was really awful. I think an HBO series would work, with the right actors and budget, as well as a focus on all the bad stuff that happens (grail slaving, territory wars, river monsters, etc).

I think Dune could be an excellent pair of movies or trilogy. It's too big for one movie, but the banquet scene, for example, is wonderful.

I recently checked out a few of the early ones and only made it through the first 5 or so episodes and to be honest, it wasn't very good. Did they get better, or is everyone's judgement just clouded by the hot cast?

I thought BG was great...don't recall whether it was a slow starter or not, but I struggled toward the middle end with the pacing a bit. Definitely worth the watch IMHO.

The first episode after the miniseries pilot was 33 (where Galactica has to jump ever 33 minutes to escape the pursuing Cylons), which is arguably the best episode in the entire series.

That was the only episode that I found interesting. The rest after that were disappointing.

We're all entitled to our opinions. From everything I had heard previously, I was expecting to really be impressed. Which might have been the problem. Then you watch that 33 episode and you think, YA, this is pretty damn good. But the next few episodes really didn't measure up and were mediocre at best. Eventually I may go back and watch a few more.
