Erm, money in the bank. The Star Trek franchise pays better than the Royal Shakespeare Company or the B.B.C. in the 1970s- I saw Patrick Stewart as Titus Andronicus in the early 1980s and as Sejanus in 'I, Claudius' in the 1970s on B.B.C. 2- I can't imagine that even allowing for changing rates, the pay for those equals 'X-Men' or any of the Next Generation films. Still, you can always watch him as Ebenezer Scrooge...

Ok, you're right. Yet, Voyager felt terribly tired. There was this template set by TNG they weren't able to move away from (much like DS9 in its first season). Abrams slammed on the RESET button with gusto, and made a ST where the action is proper and massive cliches such as technobabble are tongue-in-cheek. Heck, when there's technobabble in regular episodes, I tend to take it humorously.

Klingons, for instance, are now cultureless monsters, sharing much more in common with Nemesis' Remans.

Isn't that the way Klingons originally were, before they got all cuddly and started jammering about honour and tradition to no end?

It's poorly acted CGI crap... with glitz and glam. The action sucks because the movie is saturated with it. You can't put the females on a pedestal because all the women are hot.

I could give half a **** if they stuck to "canon" or whatever.

They took everything awesome about TOS and ruined it. There's no dry wit. There's no comic relief... unless you count Simon Pegg's over the top SCOTLAND SCOTLAND SCOTTIE, I"M SCOTTISH routine.

None of the characters have any presence. In the original Star Trek movies that were bad, it was still entertaining because the characters' personalities were a joy to watch.

The new ones also have pointless "drama"... like Zoe Saldana perpetually rolling her eyes at Chris Pine... and Zach Quinto or whatever... the whole issue of insubordination and conflict with Kirk. It's contrived. It's bad. It sucks. The movies seem like an extended episode of Lost... which also sucked hardcore balls... and is perhaps the most overrated TV show in recent memory.

The newer movies may be entertaining in their own right, but they are so in spite of well... pretty much everything.

But whatever. Enjoy your CGI fapfest

                  Not sure.
STTOS they looked more like Vulcans with shoe polish for makeup.
I like the honor and warrior thing they had going.

I'll take a good story over a action CGI movie any day.

I will. When you see the Enterprise blazing all guns, you wonder how the hell the Federation ever managed to win a fight in pre CGI days.

New-gen Star Trek is FUN. Stop hating fun. And get out of my thread.

If you are going to go crazy with special effects... making action scenes that look like the inside of a blender... I WANT TO SEE BODIES AND **** FLYING AROUND

                            it's like watching looney tunes

Too much CGI takes you out of the movie. There is no tension when you know it looks fake.
