Maybe he believes that the UK can take credit for Australia's contributions? Honestly, it was mostly the Kuomintang in China who fought the Japanese prior to December 1941.

Lamar Smith is a Christian Scientist. Thought we all should know that.Originally posted by MrFun View PostThe real motive for Rep. Lamar Smith to put forth such inane proposals is probably simply part of the whole culture war raging in America.
Why doesn't he just admit that he's a religious fanatic who has a blind hatred for anything secular?

He's being tongue in cheek. It's cool.Originally posted by kentonio View PostCool, you meanwhile can pay us for the lives we spent fighting the Germans and Japanese allowing you time to rearm and eventually join in feeling like conquerors. Oh and for the lives the commonwealth sacrificed for the US in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and various other conflicts over the years.
Or of course, you could stop being arrogant dicks and realize that we've all helped each other out plenty over the years. America needs to get over its wank fantasy about being exceptional before it disappears up it's own ass leaving China to take over.

I promise you my congressman pays no attention to the teacher's unions, since we basically don't have them in virginia. And the only reason they pay attention to these people ever is because they have lots of votes. The NRA has what, 5 million members? More? That's huge. And even more who aren't dues-paying but pay attention to the NRA scoring. They listen to the NRA not because the NRA gives them money, but because the NRA is a ****ing huge group of voters.Originally posted by Guynemer View PostWho do you think your congresspeople pay more attention to? You and your fellow constituents, or the NRA/Teacher's Unions/UAW/name-a-bank-here/etc etc etc
Of course my congressmen isn't going to listen to me individually. He has hundreds of thousands of constituents. That's the way it should be.
Gerry Connolly voted for the healthcare bill. He didn't listen to his constituents. He came within a couple hundred votes of losing his seat, and only won because the guy he was running against was an idiot. He changed quite a bit after that election. I think it was a wake up call.

Just think of all the useful applications that came from the Gay Bomb research the US government did. I can't think of any but they surely must be there.Originally posted by rah View PostAre you making the claim that all government sponsored research is very valuable?
