With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I had one in November. It's not a routine for me. But I would say the procedure is routine.

I complained about my heart once and my not so good doctor gave me one every time he saw me...

He wasn't very good, and I am sure he did everything he could think of. What I really needed him to do was to say 'you lost your weight and changed your life, you can go off the medication and will be fine'.

@Molly. Totally missed your post, sorry. Though, despite your nice words, I can't explain why there have been a string of good danish (and swedish) movies in the last decade or so Can only say that in the same period there have been a similar large number of authors in both countries.
Hoorah, glad to hear it (the relief). Re: Scandofilms. Always been a fan, things like 'My Life As A Dog', 'Ake's World', 'ådalen 31', 'Babette's Feast'- it just seems that now there's a resurgence of incredibly intelligent and gripping t.v. drama and film from your part of the world- I found 'King's Game' really thrilling and the dvd extras are fascinating too.

Good and continued health to you-

Let me try to destroy your impression of danish movies :

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063386/ (beware of norwegian and swedish copycats )

Don't know if they exist with english speak/subtitles, but the first should be available with east german speak.

Well, not all British drama is the quality of 'I Claudius'. Did you ever see the BBC's 'The Cleoptras' ? And British films aren't all '10 Rillington Place', 'Get Carter' or 'Brief Encounter'.

                    Seen this horror ?

Haven't seen The Cleopatras, so thanks for the warning. Have enjoyed both Get Carter (strangely, the yanky remake are also pretty good) and I Claudius.

Though, those to series I linked to are not bad. I mean, you don't make 14 cinema movies over three decades or 24 TV episodes over four years (reaired 6 times since initial) and selling 1 mill DVD boxsets in a country with 5 mill inhabitants, if they are crap

Problem is that they are very danish. I have noticed that that isn't a problem for you, and you would probably enjoy Matador just for its description of life in denmark back in 30-40'ies, but I'm not sure you can take the slapstick humour in Olsen Banden. As a dane, I of course like them, but also because they remind me of how ordinary life was when I was a kid.

'Get Carter' reminds me a little bit of where I grew up- Coventry was less coal (though there was a coal mine on the outskirts) more cars than Newcastle, but the working class culture and air of potential violence were both there in the 1970s & 1980s.

I think it was a Norwegian who said that the British reminded him of Norwegians, only crazy. I suspect the feeling is similar in Denmark- I have noticed that the sense of humour seems to be quite similar. I recall that some of Isak Dinesen's Gothic Tales were adapted for the B.B.C. in the late 70s or early 80s too...

We used to have regular series of decent foreign language films on terrestrial television, but now it all seems to be talent(less) show dross and 'reality' television instead of 'The Baker's Bread', 'The German Sisters' or 'Hunger' .

The times they have a-changed... alas.

@Molly: It seems that BBC has learned a bit - currently danish TV are sending a british series called Secret State that is quite good - don't know if they have got inspiration from certain scandinavian ditto. Probably still learning since they have squeezed it into four episodes
